Pare che Offida, secondo alcuni studiosi, abbia avuto origini che vanno addirittura all’età della Pietra, dovuto a dei ritrovamenti di tombe dei Pelasgi nell’area circostante e pertanto si presuppone che un borgo fosse già esistente. Altre teorie parlano del periodo romano. Più plausibile è la teoria della sua fondazione da parte degli Ascolani, che per fuggire dalle invasioni dei Longobardi, si rifugiarono sulle sommità delle colline verso l’interno delle Marche, costruendo parecchie Fortezze, inclusa quelle di Offida.
L’importanza di Offida viene conclamata, quando nel VII secolo, divenne Gastaldato.
Nei secoli che vanno dal XIII al XIV, Offida fu sempre al centro della lotta di potere del territorio, tra Ascoli e Fermo.

According to some historians, Offida seems to have had origins that go back to the Stone Age, due to the findings of Pelasgian tombs in the surrounding area and therefore it is assumed that a village already existed. Other theories speak of the Roman period. More plausible is the theory of its foundation by the Ascolani, who took refuge on the top of the hills towards the interior of the Marche to escape the invasions of the Lombards, building several fortresses, including those of Offida.
The importance of Offida was made clear when, in the seventh century, it became Gastald.
In the centuries ranging from the thirteenth to the fourteenth, Offida was always at the center of the power struggle of the territory, between Ascoli and Fermo.
